Pebble Tile

Natural materials are continuing to gain popularity in Kitchens and Baths. 36.jpg
From earth toned river rock to polished black quartz, pebble tile is becoming a surfacing material of choice. The pebbles are gauged for thickness and then assembled onto mesh backed 12"x12" sections. pebble close up.jpg These sections are made to be interlocked so that when installed, they have a very natural random pattern appearance. There is also a "standing stoneā€ version of these pebble tiles that actually have the pebbles standing on end and attached to mesh backing as well (as shown in the first image above). The standing stone comes in 4"x12" bricks that are applied to vertical surfaces using only mortar/thinset. As they do not need grout for installation they have the appearance of stacked/standing stone. These are great for residential as well as spa outdoor shower areas. I have seen pebble tile popping up in more places such as in a recent Pottery Barn catalog that showed them in a bath environment, to more commercial applications such as the bar area at the relatively new Hotel Vitale in San Francisco. Expect to see pebble tile in more and more shelter magazines. Hotel pebble.jpg Americano @ The Hotel Vitale

is there a good way to seal grout so it doesn't get grungy? i'm thinking about these flat stone tiles for our kitchen backsplash but don't want a ton of upkeep
