I came across the Wee House in a recent issue of, oddly enough, Country Home magazine. I was intrigued by the modern design of the modular home and by the relatively inexpensive cost. I have long been a fan of the idea of a well designed modular home. From the Glide House to Marmol/Radziner's luxe modular homes the concept of mass produced, well designed modular housing as an economical alternative to site built housing has not yet found the scale to make it as affordable as it could be. That is what intrigued me about the Wee House. The Wee house below had a constuction cost of only $45K.

The homes are factory built in Minnesota and shipped to the homesite via flatbed truck. The finishes are completely custom to each home so one can upgrade the home as they wish. The fit and the finish is what one might expect from a site built custom home as evidenced by the details of the children's room (below) in one of the Wee Houses.

With more cost effective modular homes such as the Wee House coming to market, my daydreams of the affordable modular oceanfront home in Hawaii stays alive.
