Is the AD going modern?
I was just recently persusing the latest issue of Architectural Digest and was struck by how many modern ads were in this issue.
AD has long been a haven for coordinated toile rooms and silk trim. However, the most recent October issue tends to be a bit more Dwell than the Architectural Digest I was used to flipping through. The Farrar House by Peter Bohlin is pretty spectacular as is the Mediterranean house by Sir Norman Foster, but it's the ads that I find even more interesting. Poliform, Baker, & Poggenpohl are all usual suspects in the pages of AD. The ad by a bespoke kitchen manufacture is well ... confusing. It is a very traditional company trying a modern take. Does it work? You tell me.
The Smallbone kitchen is amazing; they do some really great work. It is funny to see a decidedly more modern slant in such a traditional shelter publication. Will the trend continue?
