How much does that cost?

Updated: May 27, 2022

How much does that cost - A question asked by many of our clients. How much does it cost to remodel my kitchen? How much to remodel my bath? While we only provide materials and design, we keep a finger on the pulse of costs for a complete remodel in the immediate SF Bay Area. How are costs breaking down?

The rule of thumb is 30% materials and 70% labor for a typical bathroom.

Standard "Hall Bathroom" : $8-12K in finish materials(Tile, Plumbing, Vanity, Counters, Shower Glass, etc) depending on what is selected. That equates to a $35-45K bathroom remodel all in. This assumes permits, a licensed contractor, and minimal surprises(*dry rot, structural changes, repairs to existing conditions, etc).

Master Bath: This can vary from the same cost as a hall bath to a much more luxurious lay out with freestanding tub, heated floors, steam shower, fog free and illuminated mirrors, as well as other spa features. On the higher end $20-25k for master bath materials and $50-75K all in, with the same *caveats as above.

Kitchen: This one can vary greatly. Current 2019 numbers show a typical kitchen coming in around $75-100K including semi custom cabinets, counters, labor, some appliances*(appliance packages provided by others can range from $8k to $40k for Meile caliber appliances, builtin fridges, coffee maker, steam ovens, etc.)

We typically see cabinets coming in between $15-19K(solid plywood, domestically made) for an average kitchen, while a larger kitchen with island, banquet seating etc can raise costs to $30+. Custom quartz counters can range from $5k for a small kitchen to $10-12K for a larger kitchen with Island. Materials such as calacatta marble can easily increase the cost.

Use these numbers as a guide or baseline when planning for your next project.
